NEWSLETTER  -  June 2014

Teign School Sessions during the summer  -   Due to the popularity of both the Friday and Saturday sessions both will continue for the foreseeable future.  The likelihood is that the Saturday session will stop during the school holidays while the Friday night session will continue right through the summer.  If you continue to support the sessions then we will keep them going.  Since we started at Teign School in October 2013, we have had over 100 different folk giving it a try, with over 30 being juniors.  Keep on coming and bring your mates!

Unfortunately there will be some disruption until mid-June, during the exam period, as the Sports Hall is desked out!  We will be in the dance studio and probably just the end section of the hall, with desk removing and setting up being part of the warming up / cooling down procedure.

Development Plan  -  As part of our commitment to CLUBMARK we had to formulate a development plan for the Club.  Many of the targets in the plan have now been met.  One target we have been unable to achieve, due to timing, is to run Newton Abbot TTC teams in the local league.  We now need to move this forward by committing to the Club for the coming 2014-15 season.

Newton Abbot Table Tennis Club League Teams  -  We are hoping to run several league teams at Teign School next season, in the South Devon & Torbay Table Tennis League.  At present there are 3 Divisions of varying standards.  The home matches would take place at Teign School on Friday nights between 7.00 & 10.00 with away venues in Dawlish, Brixham, Torquay, Marldon, Bishopsteignton & Halwell which could be on any week night.  Teams consist of 3 players who each play their opponents’ 3 players, and there is one doubles match. Usually 16/18 matches in a season, 8/9 home & 8/9 away.

Hopefully some existing league players will commit to playing for the Club in the new season, along with many new players both old and young.  Ideally we will be looking for squads of 4-5 players (to cover for illness & unavailability) to commit to playing regularly throughout the season.

There is a small financial commitment for registering with ETTA and the League, but this should be no more than a one-off payment of approximately £12 for juniors & £24 for seniors, plus home match fee of £4/match.

Although the League will not send out registration forms until mid-July we need to formulate our teams now so that we can recruit extra players, chaperones/drivers etc.   So please start thinking about next season and let us know your availability either as individuals or as a team.  It would also be good to hear from any parent who might be able to help out with transport to away fixtures.

Tournaments  -  At the end of each month on the Friday night we are introducing a handicapped tournament.  This is to introduce more competitive match play before the start of the league season.  The Pyramid / ladder positions will help to formulate players’ handicaps.

Tournament Dates  -  Friday 30th May,  Friday 27th June,  Friday 25th July.
