NEWSLETTER – DECEMBER ‘13

Newton Abbot Table Tennis Club is now a recognised ETTA Premier Club and we are well on our way towards Clubmark status.

The Management Committee of the Club have approved a development plan which aims to make Newton Abbot Table Tennis Club an important centre for table tennis in the area.  The key areas of development being;

  • Two new ETTA level 1 coaches at the club, to assist our Lead Coach
  • The establishment of Teign School as our only centre. 13 tables would be available at this site. Our existing tables would be moved to Teign School and table tennis will no longer be offered at Newton Abbot Leisure Centre.
  • Extend the hours available at Teign School on Fridays to enable league matches to be played at this venue
  • Visiting local schools, giving demonstrations, coaching etc to encourage juniors into the club
  • Gaining Clubmark accreditation

We are getting good support from the ETTA Regional Development Manager, Teignbridge District Council’s Active Leisure Development Officer, Active Devon and the South Devon & Torbay Table Tennis League,all helping us move forward.

There are lots of funding pots out there for us to dip into, and lots of help to achieve this funding.

When an ETTA Level 1 Coaching Course becomes available we will be sending two members of the club on it.

Negotiations with Teign School for Saturday opening has been encouraging and will surely happen early in the New Year but for the moment, although not ideal, we will have to continue at Newton Abbot Leisure Centre on Saturdays.  Teign School have been very accommodating with all our requests and are fully committed to working with us to achieve our targets.

In the new year Table Tennis starts back at Newton Abbot Leisure Centre on Saturday morning 4th January 2014, 10.00 – 12.30  and at Teign School on Friday nights 10th January 2014, 18.30 – 21.30.

We will be working closely with Teignbridge’s Leisure Development officer in delivering an 8 week programme to encourage people to get active, it is an initiative targeting mainly adults who have either stopped playing, haven’t played since school or never played at all.

Finally, we want to build up a strong membership base, to this aim, we have agreed that there would be no charge for membership of Newton Abbot Table Tennis Club. However as an ETTA Premier Club the ETTA would like all members of the Club to be members of the ETTA at a cost of £4/yr associate members (non league players) or £8/yr full membership (league players).

The majority of those that play at our centres are existing ETTA members so it would not cost you anything to join our club. Please log onto   http://www.tabletennis365.com/etta/membership and select  Newton Abbot Table Tennis Club in the drop down box of organisations you could belong to, or ring up 0845 0500 388 and say you want Newton Abbot Table Tennis Club added to your organisations.

All the best for Christmas & the New Year
