In the Premier Division last week three big guns were in action extracting every morsel from their hapless opponents. Ramsbottom were ruthless as they beat promoted Coburg A 27-1, while Flixton CC A overcame Ladybridge A 27-2 and Ramsbottom Cricket Club out played Heaton CC 27-3. The rest were more balanced affairs. Hilton A just edged their match against Wharton 20-17 thanks to 9 points from Andrew Michnowiec, while Flixton CC B just managed a 18-17 win against Little Lever CC A aided by nine points from Flixton’s Jordan Potts. There was 19-19 tie in the match between Nomads A and Radcliffe CC with Zac Cantor scoring nine for Radcliffe.
Division One provided less bruising encounters although Wingates took advantage of promoted Meadow Ben A to win 24-7 with nine-point hauls for both John and Alan Bradbury. Farnworth SC A took advantage of a two man Hilton C to win 23-9, while Burning Desire had a 24-10 win against Little Lever CC B with Brett Haslam and Ben Armstrong on form. Two 21-15 wins had Ramsbottom Town B beating BRASS A with David Kay collecting maximum points. Acre Bottom won against Hilton B with Brian Clements on top form. The division’s other match saw Nomads B beat Coburg B 19-13.
In Division Two full points were achieved by all players in Hilton D as they beat Top Spinners 27-5. Hilton E outdid their own F team 21-12 with John Barker and Tony Eardley putting in maximum nine-points performances. BRASS B overcame promoted Boyzone 20-17 and Heaton CC B just pipped Bolton TTC A 18-17 thanks to nine from David Hall.
Division Three saw St. Paul’s Peel beating Farnworth SC B despite resistance in the form of a nine for Farnworth’s Jimmy Tunn. Hilton G outplayed Ramsbottom Town 25-7 with nine points from both Jeff Saunders and Brian Young. Bolton TTC B had a 23-9 win over Farnworth SC C with Peter McCormick collecting full points.
In Division Four relegated Meadow Hill A, in their first match of the season, took advantage of their own B team 25-9 with Roy Caswell and Roy Platt having nine-point wins. Juniors Hilton I beat Irlam Steel SC 22-14 with Steven Gao on maximum points. Juniors Hilton J did not match their success, however, as they lost out 20-17 to Meadow Ben D despite a nine-point match from Hilton’s Nathan Donaldson. Albany lost out in their match against Hilton H 24-16 largely thanks to nine from Hilton’s Leon Smethurst.
Footnote: These go in first thing Monday morning and it later turned out that I has misunderstood a message and Hilton C was not a two-man team. Score 18-16 to Farnworth.
