Report on Senior Masters
Group 1: Two players withdrew (Yequin & Krasi) and were replaced with Stuart Williams and Danny Ricks.
Martin Adams and Daniel McTiernan dominated the group, with Martin only dropping one game against Daniel and Daniel (apart from the loss to Martin) only dropped one additional game to Stuart Williams. With Stuart Williams, Steve Murgatroyd and Danny Ricks all beating each other, it had to go to count-back for the remainder of the group positions.
Group 2: In the first contest of Group 2, Daniel Moses came back from 2-1 down, winning the last 2 games comfortably to beat Csaba Pall. Csaba had a good win against Hari Gehlot, winning 11-9 in the fifth.
After dropping the first two games 11-9 to Hari, Martin Gunn then won the next three to take him to the semi finals. This group was a lot tighter and had the last two sets gone the other way we would have had a 3-way count-back for 2nd place.
Semi- Finals: Mr Gunn won the battle of the Martins, whilst Mr Moses won the battle of the Daniels.
The experience of Martin Adams then saw him take third place, beating Daniel McTiernan 11-7, 15-13, 11-5.
The Final: This was more of a battle, the scores being much more even and with the momentum going first one way then the other. Daniel took the first 11-9, Martin coming back with 12-10, then Daniel again 11-7, then Martin 11-6. At the turn-around in the fifth game Martin Gunn was 5-2 up, then took a further lead of 7-3 before Daniel Moses dug in and pulled it back to 9 each. The pressure was on, the score reaching 10-10 before Daniel won the next two points.
A very exiting final with a deserving winner retaining his title.
Reading Senior Masters champion: DANIEL MOSES
Report on Junior Masters
Group 1: This group was dominated by Harry Munro and Thomas Perkins, with them both only dropping games in the contest between the two of them. Harry came out the winner by 3 games to 1. Meanwhile, Laurence, Dylan and Bill had some terrific battles, with the last contest in the group between Dylan and Laurence being a very exiting one, Laurence winning 11-9 in the fifth.
Group 2: Yonatan Slobodskoy dominated this group, only dropping one game, against Joe Barraclough. Second place was determined by the contest between Joe and Jim McAllister, where after the first two games being 11-9 to Joe, with confidence high he took the 3rd comfortably. Jim showed his experience against Nathan Munns and Jamie Barlow, beating them both in 3-straight. Nathan and Jamie had a good battle in the last contest, showing they are youngsters to watch out for.
Semi- Finals: Yonatan beat Thomas comfortably and Joe played very well to beat No. 1 seed Harry 11-8 in the fifth to end a very exiting game.
Harry Munro took third place beating Thomas in 4 games in the play-off.
The Final - saw some fantastic play between Joe and Yonatan, with Yonatan taking this year's title 11-8, 11-7, 9-11, 11-8.
