PS I have just completed my umpire training, it is not an onerous process and is very interesting

Level 1 courses are being held in Hyndburn (Lancashire) and Widnes (Cheshire) in the coming weeks, and places can now be booked online.

The course is the entry level umpiring qualification and comprises two parts – an online learning module and online exam, followed by a practical session.

It is the first part of a journey which could lead you to officiate at major international events, such as the Commonwealth Games!

The practical sessions are as follows:

The practical sessions all take place from 10am to 4pm and will be run by an International Umpire and will cover all major issues which an umpire is likely to face. These include on-court behaviour, serving and doubles.

Premier Clubs are entitled to book a free place on each course – the cost otherwise is £30 per person. Trainee umpires north of Birmingham who undertake part of their practical at the STIGA Blackpool Junior 4 Star on 23/24 September will get a £20 refund plus travel expenses.

Places are limited to 12 per course. To book a place today click below.
