IBIS win battle of the Titans

The first round of the KDTTL Knock Out Cup, sponsored by local architects, Hooley Tratt, took place last week with 3 first round matches. The tie of the round was between current Division 1 champions, IBIS, and Natland A. In an unbelievably close encounter, IBIS squeezed through by 5 rubbers to 4. In the deciding rubber, with the scores tied at 4-4, Steve Dixon produced a typically resolute performance to defeat Tamas Bacsi, 11-8, 11-7, 3-11, 11-8. The handicap committee are to be congratulated with 6 of the 9 rubbers going to the fifth and final game. IBIS will face Dalton in the second round at the end of January.

In another tight contest, Natland C defeated Dallam 6-3. Man of the match, Bernard Pickthall, won all three of his matches. The third tie was between Natland E and Grayrigg B, with Natland E winning 5-1. Kevin Hunter’s monumental 11-9, 2-11, 10-11, 11-8, 11-10 defeat of Robert Robinson saved Grayrigg from a whitewash but that didn’t tell the whole story with 4 of the 6 matches going to the final game. In round 2, Natland C will play Burton C and Natland E will play Burton B.
