Dalton A return to the summit
Defending champions, Dalton A, returned to the top of Division 1 of the Kendal & District Table Tennis League, following an 8-2 win over Dallam A. Ben McDonald was the man of the match winning all 3 singles including an epic 9-11, 11-6, 11-7, 10-12, 11-5 victory over James Neal. Thomas Parkinson and James Neal did however secure a couple of points for Dallam with victories over Matthew Rigg and Paul Ackred respectively.
Burton B extended their lead at the top of Division 2 with a commanding 9-1 defeat of Natland C. Dennis Hooley and Shelley Rhodes were unbeaten for Burton and Natland’s only consolation was Peter Taylor’s surprise 11-13, 11-6, 11-8, 3-11, 11-5 defeat of Bryan Rhodes. Natland D consolidated second place with a 5-5 draw away to Dallam B. Paul Gosling, Dallam’s man of the match, returned to form with 3 singles wins and partnered Mike Jackson to victory in the doubles.
Crook C are 16 points clear of Kirkby Stephen B at the top of Division 3 following a 22-11 win against Natland E. This was despite man of the match, James Robinson, winning all 3 of his singles matches for Natland. However, Grayrigg A have swept ominously into 3rd place with a 30 points to 8 demolition of Kirkby Stephen B. Steve Hawley, Sam Housego and Ben Smith completed a ruthless 10-0 whitewash of the Kirkby Stephen side although 4 matches went to the 4th game and 2 to the 5th.
A little over halfway through the initial round of fixtures, Natland’s Roger Pimblett is top of the individual averages with 17 wins out of 18. Phil Swift is top of the Division 2 averages with a 100% record but has now moved up to Division 1. He is closely followed by Dennis Hooley with 27 wins out of 30.
Social table tennis continues at the Kendal Table Tennis Club, 7-9 on Tuesday evenings at the Kendal Leisure Centre. Adult table tennis enthusiasts are encouraged to come and try it – it’s great fun!
