Allen Cooper Team Handicap finals

Barming had three teams in finals but it was Coxheath D who were crowned champions

The Maidstone Table Tennis 2017/2018 League concluded with the finals of the handicap team finals at Larkfield Village Hall on Wednesday 2nd May.

The Allen Cooper final was between 1^st division Barming ‘B’ and 3^rd division Coxheath ‘D’. With the first division side giving on average a 0-10 start to their 3^rd division opponents. Coxheath’s Jason Brookes and Herve Zilliox made the most of their handicap starts to both win their three matches ably supported by Andy Garnham. Tim Vaughan, Ian Parkes and Rahu Malhotra couldn’t produce their first division form losing 2-7 in a match that was at times closer than the score suggests. The Consolation final was a classic between two Barming sides, with 3^rd division Barming ‘I’ beating 3^rd division Barming ‘E’ 5 – 4 in a tense final match of the evening. As with the main final the lower division side were on average receiving a 0-10 start. Barming E’s Robert Parks played with authority to overcome his handicap to win all his three matches but two each from Harrie Austin-Jones and Mark Jones and the final deciding win from Paul Frank tipped the result in the ‘I’ teams favour. The trophies were presented by Allen’s widow Janie Cooper.

Consolation Final – Barming ‘I’ Paul Frank (1), Harrie Austin-Jones (2), Mark Jones (2) beat Barming ‘E’ Robert Parkes (3), Asim Yusuf (0), Gavin Tovey (1) 5-4

Complimentary refreshments were supplied by the league to both players and spectators.
