East Peckham B win team final played 17 months late
The Maidstone Table Tennis 2019/2020 season finally ended, beating the Covid lockdown with the final of the Allen Cooper team handicap played 17 months after the due date.
In an all-4th division final League newcomers East Peckham ‘B’’ beat Maidstone Working Mens Club ‘G’ 6 – 3
in a most enjoyable and friendly final played at the T T Traders club on Tuesday 7th September 2021.
East Peckham’s Alan Leigh made the most of his high handicap to win all his matches and was ably supported by Gary Barton (2 wins) and Trevor Dupont (1 win). With the match poised at 4 – 2 to East Peckham, Working Men’s Sarah Stevens kept the match alive with a 21-20, 20-21, 21-18 over Gary Barton, one of many close nail-biting matches. But it was left to Alan Leigh to clinch the match 21-14, 21-10 against Sally Reeve, making the most of his 9-0 start to win the match.
The trophies were presented by Allen’s widow Janie Cooper.
