Bob is the Pride of North West Table Tennis

At the recent Kendal & District Table Tennis League end of season Presentation Evening, held at the Burton Memorial Hall, KDTTL President, Bob Gale, was presented with the highly prestigious North West ‘Contribution to Table Tennis Award’ for 2018/19. The presentation was made by Martin Ireland, Northern Area Development Lead for Table Tennis England. This award reflects Bob’s outstanding service to the Kendal & District Table Tennis League and to table tennis in general. Bob has been involved in the organisation and promotion of table tennis in Cumbria since 1968 when he became Chairman of the Barrow & District TT League. From 1975 to 1995, he was Chairman of the Kendal & District TT League, since which time he has been President of the KDTTL. He was also Chairman of the Cumbria Table Tennis Association from 1970 to 1990. Bob was a founder member of Natland & Oxenholme Table Tennis Club in 1978, Chairman from 1978 to 2000 and remains President of the club to this day. He is a qualified coach, umpire and tournament organiser. The list is endless. The opportunity for people of all ages to enjoy table tennis is almost entirely dependent on volunteers like Bob Gale and it is fitting that this has been recognised by Bob’s award, which adds to the Leslie Forrest Award he received from the then English Table Tennis Association in 1999.
