Match Report
Bod Edwards had recovered well from his Hip Op and was back at the table ... Bob reported before the match that his movement was restricted and gave the clear impression that he was an ‘Unsteady Eddie’.
Smash Scamperer, Nick the Knife and Alan ‘Red’ Baron lined up for Smash versus Unsteady Eddie and the two Denis’s (Johnson and Murphy). Scamperer v Unsteady Eddie kicked off proceedings and it turned out that Unsteady Eddie had significantly exaggerated his immobility ... in fact his performance was the nearest thing you’ll see to an audition for Strictly ... he glided across the floor and picked his winners at will ... in the blink of an eye it was three nil to Wolves.
Nick the Knife put three points on the board for Smash when he beat Denis the Older but the delight for the Smash fans was short lived when Denis the Younger despatched Red Baron ... but hang on a minute ... there was good news coming through on the transistor radio for the Smash boys. The Wolves players were Liverpool supporters and their team were 1-0 down to Man City ... maybe City could distract and unsettle the Wolves.
The Wolves then went on a three game winning spree ... the Smash boys were imploding round about the same time that City were imploding ... once again the similarities between the Wigan League and the Champions League were there for all to see.
Nick the Knife took on Denis the Older and secured three much needed points for Smash ... the fight back was on ... and then immediately off again in the next match ... the Red Baron was hitting winner after winner but succumbed to the astute table craft of Denis the Younger ... 3-1 to Wolves.
In the penultimate match Denis the Older was 2-1 down to Smash Scamperer but he was 10-3 up in the fourth ... a five setter looked like a cert ... at 10-6 it was still probable ... at 10-8 it was likely ... at 10 all it was anybodies guess what the hell was going to happen ... Scamperer eventually winning 14-12 in the fourth. The final game was played out between the two best players on the night ... Nick the Knife was playing the very mobile Bob Edwards ... quality TT from both players ending in a three nil win to Bob and the Man of the Match award to boot... with Liverpool in the semi final of the Champions League it wasn’t a bad night for the Wolves who were convincing winners 23-12.
In the Sky Sports studios Gabby Logan was guest pundit and had this to say “I can see Bob in the arms of Ann Widdecombe doing a dinky two step on the Christmas edition of Strictly” ... I, for one, would pay to see that.
