BDTTA Rules – General Meeting minutes

Monday 19thFebruary 2024

At Civil Service Club

Chairman’s Welcome – Shaun FitzPatrick welcomed all members present (33 members present with at least one representative from each club)

Apologies – Mike Cox, Nick Lock, Martin Moore, Mike Hurley, Brian Ellison.

Minutes of last General Meeting held on 11/9/23 agreed with no matters arising, proposed by Mark Woodcock & seconded by Mike Withyman.

Treasurers report – Current account £345.70, Current account £22,000.00 (this includes £6,800.00 donated by Bristol TTC to be used / ring fenced for Coaching and training (for Juniors). Proposed by Mike Withyman & seconded by Ricky Jemmott.

Registration Secretary’s Report – Computer systems under control. 23 postponements awaiting match dates, not currently a major issue, these have not been chased but need to be resolved.

The reason both TT365 & TT Leagues discussed – needed for both convenience and contingency.

Reserves playing doubles – 2 matches forfeited due to players playing across participating in doubles which is not allowed. A discussion was had regarding reason why this rule was introduced, any change would need to be put forward as a rule change in the future. It was made clear that this is not an issue if playing up for a team in a higher division, Clive to put clarification on website.

Tournaments – Mordecai now down to last 8 teams, draw to be issued by 25/2/24.

Bristol Closed – a provisional date agreed with Wyse in May but no one has been found to run it.

Belston – semi finals to be played w/c 8/4/24 – Failand v K&B, St George v Portishead,

Junior League (8 Teams) – Issues earlier in season resolved, last session Sun 25/2/24

U19 National Jnr League (11 teams) – also last session on 25/2/24.

U15 National Cadet League – Moved to Bristol at the last minute, issues encountered arranging dates due to clashing with other events, 3 sessions still to be run.

Mike Withyman advised that we are the only venue for junior TT in the South West, an appeal was also made to encourage more juniors to be become involved to safeguard the future of the league.

Summer League will take place, to be organised by Steve Knight and Aylwyn Powell.

Development – TTE have developed area plans for all regions with the exception of South West, plan awaited to see how we fit in and any actions required.

TTE want to do a city partnership with Bristol – details to follow.

Avon – Avon County being run by BDTTA committee with Dave Grounsell as Chairman, Dave requested help from Avon players to run Avon, appreciation given to Dave Reeves for his contribution to Avon.

Rule Changes

A general discussion on the pros and cons of changing the points allocated for each match took place. Followed by a vote on the proposal from Steve Knight (Portishead) to change points allocated for each match from the current 10 points to 30 points (a point for each set won), this was not accepted. 10 votes in favour and 20 against, so no change for next season.

The proposal from Mervyn George to change the end of the league financial year from 30th June to 31st May was accepted. 33 in favour and 0 against.

Any Other Business – Terry Toghill suggested best wishes be given by the attendees to Brian Ellison who is not currently in the best of health, this was unanimously accepted and given.

Andy Elliott notified attendees that the annual VETTS tournament will be taking place at Thornbury on Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th April, viewing is free and Bribar will have a stall on site. Any assistance in setting up on evening of Friday 5th April would be appreciated.
