Table-tennis Report

Leamington entered two Carter Cup teams (National Junior Boys’ Cup) in the zonal Finals in Aylesbury and both teams, comprising youngsters from Rugby TTC, qualified for the Finals to be held in Wellingborough in June.
Jesse Kendrick-Hill and Matt Outhwaite, the A team, defeated Aylesbury B 5-0 and Leicester 5-0 whilst the B duo of Niall Herbert and Anshul Satsangi beat Aylesbury A and Didcot, again by 5-0 margins, emphasising the strength of the Leamington League in National terms.
Myton’s Timmy Cooper became Warwickshire schools Under 16 Champion last week in Rugby. He defeated Paul Lilley in an exciting semi-final after trailing by two sets and 3-7, and Anshul Satsangi in another 5 setter in the Final.
The second Tara table-tennis tournament was held at the weekend at St Nicholas Leisure Centre in Warwick and attracted a big entry.
The Senior event was won by Gary Webb of Daventry who overcame Free Church’s Luke Hobbins in the Final. Jack Shardlow of Banbury won the Senior Consolation again with a local player, Flavels’ Trevor Bradley, the beaten finalist. The Juniors also went to Daventry in the shape of Guy Sparrow who pipped Church’s Sam Weaving. Lauren Evans of Tamworth won the Consolation, beating Jordan Evans of Topspinners. Free Church dominated the Cadets events Kit Turner defeating club-mate Tom Harris in a terrific final after both had looked very impressive in the earlier rounds. The Consolation went to County under 15 girl champion, Church’s Olivia Fletcher, who was taken to 4 by club- mate Katie Singleton. Rees Chamdal of Kidlington took the under 13s over local boy Bradley Matthews of Topspinners. The Consolation was claimed by Tamworth’s Amy Evans who played Church’s Lewis Singleton in an entertaining final.
In the afternoon events it was an all County Council affair in the A grade competition with Murray Stevenson beating Nilton Green. Two Free Church juniors contested the Consolation Final with Sam Wiggins beating Solomon Hayes in 4. Trevor Bradley picked up his second trophy when reversing his morning result against Shardlow to take the Grade B title. Another Flavels player, Dot Macfarlane, took the Consolation when beating Lauren Evans of Tamworth. The consistent Kit Turner took Grade C from club-mate Adam Cofler and Bradley Matthews of Topspinners overcame club-mate Jordan Evans in the Consolation. Tom Harris won the Improvers in an excellent Final over Rees Chamdal, the second time they had met as they were both in the same initial group. Church’s Adam Pulman won the Consolation when he forged victory over Amy Evans. It was an all Free Church Final in the Beginners with Lewis Singleton coming out on top over Sam Bradley (Trevor’s son).Matt Hughes of Kidlington took the Consolation over yet another Church player, Jill Weaving.
