The Scottish National Championships took place in Largs over the weekend of 2/3 March, and Aberdeen players had an outstanding event!

All the age category events, U19, U15 & U13 took place on the Sunday, and it turned out to be a dominant display from the ASV Academy players. Maja Wojcicka was undoubtedly the star player of the day winning both the U19 Girls and U15 Girls titles, becoming a double Scottish Champion. But that wasn't the end of Maja's day, she then teamed up with Shannon Brown (Edinburgh) to also take the Junior Girls Doubles and complete a hat-trick of Scottish National titles at the event, a truly outstanding achievement.

Club mate Kiishi Adekola did everything she could to outshine Maja on the day. Kiishi kicked things off by winning the girls U13 title for the second year in a row, and also for the second time defeated team mate Nikki Mo in the final, making Kiishi the U13 Scottish Champion and Nikki the silver medallist.

Kiishi then went onto make it through to the final of the U15 event, but wasn't able to overcome Maja and settled for the U15 girls Silver medal. Nikki also continued her medal haul, taking the Bronze in the U15 girls to add to her Silver in the U13 event. Overall an outstanding day for our girls, taking 4 Scottish titles and a further 3 medals between the three players, tremendous stuff!

In the boys U19 event, some excellent play from both saw Harry Blackhall & Daniel Tibbetts meet at the semi-final stage. Harry came out on top on this occasion to make it through to the final, but had to settle for the Silver medal when going down to the outstanding Gavin Yuan (Edinburgh) who had made it through to the senior men's semi-final the previous day. Harry and Daniel were not finished there though, the teammates then combined in the U19 Boys Doubles, playing some outstanding table tennis and were crowned Scottish National U19 Doubles Champions. Adding another title to the Aberdeen haul.

Over in the U15 Boys Jakub Krzyzostaniak and Dean Robertson met each other at the semi-final following some great performances.  Jakub was just too strong for Dean on this occasion, making it through to the final in four sets.  In the final top seed Joe Mulhern (Glasgow) was a bridge too for Jakub and, despite a close first end, Joe took the match with Jakub picking up the Silver medal in the Boys U15.

Aberdeen also had two players make the semi-final stage in the U13 boys, however both Victor Chen and Dean Robertson were unable to make the final on this occasion. Dean however managed to avenge his U13 semi-final defeat later in the day, overcoming Bohao Chen (Edinburgh) in the boys U15 quarter-finals.

A really incredible day for the Aberdeen contingent, with ASV Academy players taking a total of 5 Scottish National Titles, 4 further Silver medals and a Bronze.

The Scottish Senior Schools Championship takes place at the end of March, with ASV Academy players in the mix for taking further titles at that event, watch this space!
