Wilmott Cup

The League's Wilmott Cup Team of Lee Tinkler and Duncan Wraight travelled to Hull at the weekend to compete in the zonal rounds of this competition. The first match was against Stockton whose team included Tom Rayner, currently ranked 44 on the National Men's List and despite both Lee and Duncan taking Callum McRae to 5 games, the team were defeated 5-0. Next up was Scunthorpe and the team narrowly lost 3-2 with Lee defeating Josh Walshe in 3 sets, and combining with Duncan to win the doubles. The last match of the day was against Hull and the team of Chris Clinton and Sean Madden proved too strong as Northumbria fell to the zonal winners 4-1 with the only set coming from Lee. Although the results did not go our way, the players had an enjoyable day of table tennis and thank you to both players for representing the league.
