Wakefield League Week 17 round up

Eastmoor C v Eastmoor C

Chris and Graham had  John as the 3rd man up against Paul Coletta John Murgatroyd and Paul Haycock. Chris got off to a great start beating PaulC 3-0 and Graham dished out the same treatment to John. JohnK however found a very much in form PaulH too hot to handle going down 3-1. Graham easily accounted for PaulC  and next on was Chris and PaulH. Chris went 2-1 down, levelled taking the 4th and scraped home 12-10 in the final set. John hit form again beating PaulC in straight sets and combined with Chris to beat PaulH and JohnM in the doubles. Graham too found PaulH a tricky opponent and had to recover from 2-1 down to secure the win. John eased past PaulC and last on Chris accounted for John. 9-1 to Eastmoor A

PWTT v Denhale

John, Lee and Kevin wheeled out’ to contend with Denhales redoubtable three of Chow, Graham and Phil. John started slowly against Chow but got into his stride and took a good 3-1 win. Lee avenged an earlier loss to Graham again by 3sets to 1. Kev and Phil continued the 4 set routine with Kev prevailing and next on was Lee and Chow in what turned out to be the closest match of the night. None of the sets were separated by more than 2 point and Lee scraped home in the 5th 12-10. John put in another fine show beating Phil in straight sets and Kev beat a somewhat subdued Graham 3-1. Lee and Kev won the doubles against Chow and Graham, and Lee made sure of the extra point beating Phil 3-0. Kev took the 1st set in his match with Chow but suffered thereafter as Chow responded with the next 3 sets. Finally, John and Graham went on and a resurgent Graham took this 3-1. 8-2 to PWTT

Eastmoor  B  v Barnsley

Paul, Carl and Tyrone. Ray faced Ray, John and Colin. Ray got Barnsley off to a fine start beating on form Paul 3-0, Carl went 2-1 up against John only to lose the deciding 2 sets. Tyrone produced a tremendous performance recovering from 2-1 down to Colin to get a fantastic win. Carl suffered as we all do at the hands of Ray going down 3-0 and Paul couldn’t convert the 5th set in his favour against Colin. Tyrone then had another 5 setter this time against John but sadly for him he couldn’t snatch this. Doubles experts Ray and John eased through it against Carl and Paul to secure at least 3 points. Carl now gave Colin his 3rd 5 set encounter of the night and Colin prevailed 12-10 at the death. Tyrone fared no better than most against Ray and Paul rounded the match off winning a highly competitive 5 set match with John. 8-2 to Barnsley but 6 matches went the distance so the scoreline doesn’t really reflect the closeness of the tie.
