Northumbria Winter League - weekly league report 23 January 2022

In the Premier Division there was a straightforward 10-0 win for NECA A over Tyneside A as Adam Webster, Martin Schapira and Lee Twinkler proved too strong for their opponents. The win moved NECA back into top place as their closest rivals Old England Jacks could only draw 5-5 with Mount A. Jamie Dent was player of the match winning three games for Mount including a good win over Steve Penman in five ends. Mount’s Dan Dodds and Jimmy Scope both beat Lynne Herrington to secure the draw for their team. Steve Penman and Neil Herrington won two games each and the doubles for Old England. Cramlington Casuals beat Prudhoe United Services A 7-3 with Duncan Wraight player of the match wining three games for Cramlington supported by James Bradbury who won two games and Iain Wood one game. St Chads fielded a strong team for the visit of Newcastle University with Josh Weatherby winning three games and both Keith Weatherby and Richard Wilson winning two games each. The University’s Ethan Lam won two games against Keith Weatherby and Richard Wilson.

In Division 1 Mount B extended their lead at the top of the division with a 10-0 win over Cramlington Tigers. The Mount team of Lee Eadington, Karen Henry and Shirley Gelder proving too strong for their opponents. The match between Old England Nomads and Ouston A ended in a 6-4 win for Old England which saw the teams move into second and third place respectively as Cramlington Falcons did not have game this week. Joe Perrin was player of the match for Old England winning three games and the doubles with Alan Atkinson; the Old England points came from wins for Alan Atkinson and Colin Robson. Mount C had a straightforward 9-1 win over Prudhoe United Services B with Alan Livingstone and Dale Aitkenhead winning three games and Karen Henry two, Prudhoe’s point came from a John Henderson win against Karen Henry.

In Division 2 Brandon Bravehearts maintained their impressive form with an 8-2 win over Mount D a result which keeps them in top place in the division. Phil Hansom was player of the match with three wins for Brandon, Steve Pattinson and Jamie Westwater added two wins each. Mount’s points came from a Joseph Miller win over Jamie Westwater and Gary Miller beat Stephen Pattinson. Ouston B opened up a small gap in second place following a 10-0 win over Ouston C. The B team of Jeff McKenna, Michael Lyons and Jamie Milroy proving too strong for the C team. Tyneside B are keeping the pressure on Ouston B after an 8-2 win over Stocksfield B. Chas Robertson was player of the match winning three games for Tyneside with James Robertson and James Moore both wining two games. In the all Cramlington match between Cramlington Spartans and Cramlington Swifts the Spartans came out on top with a 6-4 win with Sam Nair and Leon Conn both winning two games and the doubles for the Spartans.

In Division 3 Tyneside C and Stocksfield C keep up the pressure on league leaders Saints as they both had wins this week. Tyneside C beat Cramlington Lions 8-2 with Don Catley and Daniel Foster winning three games and the doubles. The wins for the Lions came from John McKenna and Freddie Mckenna who both beat Ian Armstrong. Stocksfield C had an 8-2 win over Cramlington Dynamos with Mark Perrin player of the match with three wins for Stocksfield supported by Stefan Sobell and Richard Rayfield who had two wins each. The wins for the Dynamos both came from Daniel Gazerani-Lopez who edged out Stefan Sobell and Richard Rayfield in close five end games. The Cramlington Dragons proved too strong for the young Cramlington Magpies team, Pauline Long and Adrian Barnes winning three games each for the Dragons with the Magpies only win coming from Joel Dyter who beat Mick Sursham in a close game.
