In week 2 of the winter league 4 out of the 5 Premier Division matches were played on the Monday. NESLC Eagles proved too strong for the Newton A team with a 9-1 victory. Steve Penman, Jim Stamas and Richard Wilson each won their 3 singles matches. Ant Aintley and John Russell combined to take the doubles match in a 5 ender against Stamas and Wilson and gain Newton’s  point.

Meanwhile, at Cramlington the Club’s 4 Premier teams fought it out amongst themselves. The Casuals beat the Stingers 7.3 with Barry Richardson and Andrew Wilkinson each winning their games for the Casuals. On the next table the Tigers overcome the Reivers by 6 games to 4 thanks to Dave Robson and Geoff Salter each getting their hat tricks. Salter was also unbeaten in the previous weekend when he was playing for Scotland, in Dublin, at the Vets 6 Nations event. The 4 home countries plus Guernsey and the Isle of Man were competing. Scotland won the Silver in the team event and struck gold in the individuals when Salter won the over 60s singles and the doubles with Johnny Clarke.

The remaining 2 Premier matches saw away victories for YMCA North Tyneside A and St Chads who each beat their opponents Seaburn Dene and Newcastle Communities with 8-2 scores.

In Division 1 North Fire A beat Riding Mill B 6-4 and North Fire B travelled to Riding Mill to beat their A team 6-4. Old England Jacks , away to Cramlington Trojans, gained an 8-2 victory helped by 3 wins from Alan Atkinson. Matfen A went down 3-7 to Tyne Dock who travelled from South Shields for the match. Steve Wyberg won his 3 for the visitors.

In Division 2 the Ouston B team entertained their A team. The A team triumphed winning 8 gains against the 2 by the B team. Michael Lyons, from the A team, was man of the match with 3 victories. Mortimer CA, another team from Shields, travelled to Newton Village Hall to gain a 9-1 win against Newton C.

Matfen B and Ouston C drew 5 all in their division 3 match, as did Cramlington Swifts against Cramlington Dragons. There was a 10-0  victory for YMCA North Tyneside C against Cramlington Ravens and Old England FATTS beat Cramlington Spartans 7-3.

In Division 4 it was away victories all round Ouston D lost 0-10 to Matfen C, Cramlington Knights lost 1-9 against Newton D 3-7 to Newcastle Communities B with Chen Juan Ji winning his 3 games for Communities.
