Hastings League Minor Trophy 2022-23

Bexhill C won the Hastings League Minor Trophy knockout competition with a 5-4 win over Division 2 runners-up Hollington B in a final played at Hastings Academy on Thursday.

The Bexhill side went into the final as underdogs, with Hollington being the only side to perform a Division 2 double over them this season, with the absence of in-form Pam Winter only adding to this feeling.  Perfect timing then for Tina Beaney to provide a virtuoso performance for Bexhill, winning both her singles and both her doubles, with the singles victories including a fine win over Hollington’s No. 1, Paul Hyland.

Bexhill won all three doubles, with the game won by Tina and David Laing, who had never played together before, against Hyland and Mike Courtnage clinching the overall victory. All the more surprising is that Hollington B were comfortable top of the Division 2 Doubles Table, with Bexhill second, almost 20% adrift.

Hollington’s Mike Courtnage also won both his singles, against David Laing and Brian Busbridge to keep Hollington in contention but Beaney proved the difference in the end.
