Roy’s Boys completed their first half matches when they were visited by White Horse. Highlight of the evening was the player of the match award to Barry hooper for his singles maximum. Roy Hooper added 3 singles sets to the home team’s scoreline, raising the team’s final total to 12.

For the rest of the match Roy’s Boys were not at the races as White Horse galloped away with the victory. In the singles, Ian Rew was out in front with 8 sets, followed by David Bryant with 6 and Andy Godfrey 5. An unopposed maximum in the doubles gave White Horse the victory, by a wide margin, with a total of 28 points. At this stage of the first half of the season, White Horse is now the Dark Horse as they are making the most of the good to soft going, with two games in hand, and hoping to come up on the rails to pip Plan B at the post for a spot in division 1.

Plan B ended this part of their campaign when they entertained Basement Dwellers. The home team made the visitors work hard but were unable to close out sufficient sets. In the singles, Geoff Williams led the way with 3 and Robin Arkel added 1 final set. In the doubles, Martin Shoots had success with his teammates as they all combined to win a total of 4 sets. Plan B ended the evening with a modest 8 points.

Basement Dwellers fielded their top squad in order to maximise their scoreline. With a full set of maximums in the singles for Vince Court, Joe Camp and Mike Vickery, it was Mike that received the player of the match award for his consistent play and unopposed maximum. Basement Dwellers had the better of the doubles and their 7 sets gave them a winning total of 34 for the match.

With the return of their captain, Hawks put in a strong performance against visitors, Gnomads. Mark Scyner led the way with 8 sets, just missing out on attaining a maximum. Mark was well supported by Alfie and Nathaniel Southam who won 2 singles sets apiece. The battling continued throughout the doubles where a further 5 sets were won. During the match only 4 games were completed within the minimum 3 sets, which demonstrates how close the contest was. Hawks concluded their final match of this leg with a total of 17 points.

Gnomads stayed focussed throughout the evening. Martin Rant continued his good form to win the player of the match award for his maximum. Tony Brooks scored an excellent 8, and substitute, Liz Fletcher, put in a sterling performance with 6 singles sets. Gnomads prevailed in the doubles with a maximum to bring their tally to 32 points.

It was the battle of the giants when the top two teams from last season faced up to each other. Wiveliscombe have the opportunity to top the table in this leg of the season and aimed to maximise their score from this encounter. Paul Nutkins scored the only singles maximum of the evening and was duly awarded player of the match. John Edbrooke scored 7, and David Woodland concluded the singles with 6 sets. With a maximum in the doubles, Wiveliscombe emerged victorious with a total of 31 points. With one match remaining, Wiveliscombe will have to be relentless in their play against Dark Horse next week.

Basement Dwellers played steadily throughout the evening but never gained the upper hand. Vince Court was playing his second match of the week and managed to top-score with 7 singles sets. Jasper Pye won a further 2, with Kerry Manicom adding one final singles set. With only 2 doubles sets gleaned, Basement Dwellers ended the match, and this leg, with a total of 12 points for the evening.
