1st DIVISION

Hillbillies were home on the range when White Horse paid them a visit. From the off the home team kept White Horse on the rails as Hillbillies struck oil this week. Both Curtis King and Paul Rees scored maximums, with Curtis managing to improve his averages and receive the player of the match award. The ambidextrous Sifa Vea added the final 6 singles sets before the team went on to score another maximum in the doubles. Hillbillies banked 33 points for their evening’s work.

White Horse trailed from the start and failed to make much headway as the match progressed. David Bryant spurred himself on winning 5 singles sets, with Ian Rew adding 3 and Andy Godfrey 1. The visitors had quite a good showing in the doubles with 5 sets as White Horse passed the finishing post with a total of 14.

2nd DIVISION

The junior Hawks had a busy week when firstly they played newly formed Waterrow. It was again Mark Scyner who led the way in the singles with 8 sets. Alfie Southam is really starting to master his pimple bat, scoring a solid 5 singles sets. Nathaniel Southam added one final set before helping to add 5 doubles sets for the team. Hawks ended the match with 19 points.

Waterrow played consistently well throughout the evening with Eamon Farrelly scoring the only maximum for the player of the match award. Dennis Buckingham added 7 sets, with the singles scoring completed by Harry Woodland with 5. With 8 sets to their credit in the doubles, Waterrow eased to a comfortable victory with 29 points.

 

It was a close call as Drifters and Wanderers met up in Minehead for their match. For the Home team Andrew Miles got to grips with his pimpled bat and won an impressive 7 sets. This was also matched by Liz Fletcher. The final 3 singles sets were won by Crispin Barber before Drifters went on to take 8 doubles sets, and the match, with a total of 25 points.

Wanderers varied their line-up this week with their star player, Jani Jasielczuk, scoring the only maximum of the evening and winning his first player of the match award. The remaining singles sets were scored by David Veale and Laurie Chalk with 3 sets each. With 5 doubles sets added, Wanderers departed with a total of 20 points.

 

Hawks’ second match of the week was against ex division 1 Shooting Stars. The home team put up a magnificent fight led by player of the match Mark Scyner who scored the only maximum of the evening. Alfie Southam made his opponents fight hard for every set and, in the process, narrowly lost the longest set of the evening that consisted of 34 points. Alfie ended with 4 singles sets to his credit. Nathaniel Southam helped his team to win 4 doubles sets to give Hawks a final score of 17 and the current top spot in division 2.

Shooting Stars battled hard all evening with Martin Shoots and Geoff Williams scoring 7 sets apiece. The final 4 singles sets were added by Robin Arkell. The addition of 6 doubles sets gave Shooting Stars a final tally of 24 and the win.
