There was only one match to report from last week when Allsorts entertained Roy’s Boys. The home team put on a strong performance with Matt Lawrence and Scott Milton each scoring a maximum, with the player of the match award going to Scott. Barbara Parker, who is normally the team’s doubles specialist, played a full match and scored 3 valuable singles points. With a further 6 doubles points added, Allsorts’ final score rose to a victorious 27 points.

Roy’s Boys put up a spirited fight with Roy Hooper the team’s star performer with his 4 singles points. Barry Hooper then added the final 3 singles points. With a further 3 points from the doubles, Roy’s Boys ended the evening with 10 points

Roy’s Boys were in action again this week with the daunting task of challenging last year’s champions, Basement Dwellers. Roy and Barry Hooper scored one singles point apiece before gleaning one further doubles point. Roy’s Boys therefore completed the match with a total of 3 points.

Basement Dwellers were uncompromising throughout the match. Vince Court, Toby Kerslake and Curtis King all scored maximums in the singles, with Vince Court receiving the player of the match award. Scoring maximum doubles points, Basement Dwellers ended the evening with a Grand Slam 36 points.

Last Chance Saloon continued their campaign with a home match against Gnomads. Captain, Curtis King led the scoring for the home team with 7 points, with teammates Paul Rees and the ambidextrous Sifa Vea restricted to 4 points and 3 points respectively. With a further 5 doubles points, the final score for Last Chance Saloon rose to 19 points.

Gnomads had the edge in this match all evening, with Martin Rant earning the player of the match for his maximum. Nigel Foster added an excellent 6, with Derek Mayall adding the final 3 singles points. With 8 doubles points, Gnomads scored a convincing victory with 26 points to keep them at the top of the league table.

Junior team, Hawks, faced a tough home match against Allsorts. Only captain Mark Scyner, together with Alfie Southam, managed to contribute to the score line with 4 and 3 singles points respectively. Many sets could have gone either way for the juniors but, with no success in the doubles, Hawks’ total remained at 7 for the evening.

Allsorts kept up the pressure on their opponents throughout the match. Scott Milton was awarded the player of the match for his maximum. Matt Lawrence and Andy Berry scored 7 singles points apiece before the team went on to claim another maximum in the doubles. Allsorts ended their evening with 32 points, elevating them to second position in the league table.
