The only match played this week turned out to be a thrilling and close-fought Minehead derby between House Martyns and Basement Dwellers. For the home team, captain Scott Milton was on top form and played his best match of the year against last season’s champions. With an excellent maximum Scott earned the player of the match award.

The remaining 5 singles points were scored by Curtis King. Andy Godfrey was a last-minute substitute for this match and missed winning vital sets by the narrowest of margins. Andy’s strength was however demonstrated in the doubles where he helped the hosts gain 8 points. This brought House Martyn’s total up to 22 points.

The match was evenly balanced throughout with neither team establishing a clear lead. For Basement Dwellers it was hard hitting Toby Kerslake who top-scored with 7 points. Captain Vince Court found his hard bat too much of a challenge this week against such resolute opposition but scored a solid 6 points. The final singles points were provided by Paul Reese who added 4 towards the total. In the doubles Basement Dwellers could not quite match their opponents, scoring 6 points.

When the card was tallied, Basement Dwellers won the day by a single point with a total of 23, leaving the team positions within the division 1 table unchanged.
