Division 1– This week we again only have two matches to report. Firstly, division 1 hopefuls, Basement Dwellers entertained Gnomads. This proved to be a close-fought match which may have stalled ‘Dwellers’ bid for division 1 glory. It was Mike Vickery heading the home team score-line to receive the player of the match award for the only maximum of the evening. Vince Court scored 7 points during his period of abstinence from bat twiddling and Paul Rees added a further 3 between the cryptic crossword clues. Doubles were evenly contested, and with those 5 points, Basement Dwellers ended the match with 24 points. Gnomads battled hard with Julie Byrne narrowly missing her maximum and top-scoring with 8 points as she ground out some valuable wins during the match. Martin Rant added a further 6 and Nigel Foster 2 singles points. With 6 doubles points to add, Gnomads ended as runners-up with 22 points.

Secondly, House Martyns took on White Horse and flew into a swift lead. Scott Milton and his dead bat reigned supreme again with the player of the match award for his maximum. Joe Burt was also on top form when he too scored a maximum, and 3 more valuable singles points were added by Jack Lancaster. The doubles were quite evenly contested and, with 6 points scored, this gave House Martyns a winning score of 27 points. Despite some hard sets, White Horse trailed from the start. This year’s signing, David Bryant, led the away team scoring with 5, followed by Ian Rew with 4 and Colin White with 3 points from the singles. With a better overall performance in the doubles, their 5 points gave White Horse a final tally of 17 points.
