Results Week 1
West Somerset Table Tennis Association has reverted to a 2 Division format for the 2014 -2015 season following a small reduction in team numbers.
Champions Wiveliscombe got off to a flying start with a 36-3 victory over newly promoted junior side Swallows. There were maximums for John Edbrooke, David Woodland and Paul Nutkins. The scoreline didn't do the Swallows justice. Jasper Pye played a fine game to take a set from Dave Woodland and then combined with Benjamin Forster to take 2 sets in a doubles against Edbrooke and Nutkins.
Maximums for Toby Kerslake and Rod Richards steered Basement Dwellers to a 35-9 win over Gnomads A. Martin Rant took 5 of Gnomads 9 points which included a 5 set victory over Vince Court.
Roys Boys got off to a winning start with a 28-17 away success at Minehead A. Lee Hooper top scored for Roys Boys taking 8 points from his singles. A great team performance saw Roy and Barry Hooper contribute 5 and 7 singles points respectively. Junior Chris Norman starred for Minehead A and was only denied his maximum in a 5 set defeat to Lee Hooper.
Shooting Stars (formerly Baptist) recorded a 30-12 home win over Tigers. Veteran John Phillips led the way taking 8 points from his West Somerset League debut. Martin Shoots and Tony Burrows added 7 and 6 singles points. Geoff Williams scored a fine maximum to take 9 of tigers 12 point total.
The only second division result recorded from week 1 was a 34-12 away win for Mad Batters at St. Audries. Brothers Matthew and Jamie Short scored maximums for the Batters. Father Trevor Short went down in 4 sets to Andy Godfrey in St. Audries' only singles success.
