Match Report

Another excellent evening of table tennis at the VH with 4 sets completed in 4 games and 1 going to 5. Despite these lengthy sets, the match was completed close to 9.30. It does help though to start at 7.00 and when players avoid delays and just keep on playing! Carolyn was also pleased to see me earlier than expected having recently suffered another fall and this time a hip injury!!

Harriers are a very pleasant team to play; spearheaded by Dale F who is one of the nicest people in our table tennis "community". Ivor and Chris appear to provide Dale with fine support both "on and off" the table so there is a good team "vibe".

Last night, Ivor started the evening with a tough and close set against Colin. 2 legs down, Ivor came back to level only to lose 11-7 in the decisive fifth. This encounter set the tone for the evening. Ivor is also one of the most improved players in the league so I was quite pleased to beat him this time! Ivor must be one of the fittest around too judging by the way he was retrieving balls from underneath the many chairs in the Village Hall! Thank you Ivor......

It was also good to see Chris Baron playing once more after a lengthy absence. Chris is always a difficult opponent and again caused us all problems. Chris and myself had a really "titanic" battle with 3 deuce games but Chris won the fourth 16-14 to gain a deserved point for the Harriers.

Martin sailed through his sets again losing only 1 leg against Chris while Colin won another maximum and maintaining his fine form since his injury earlier in the season. I feel I am playing well and enjoying the competition but still missing out in some of the tight sets. With 4 matches to play it would now be a excellent time for me to convert a few of these losses into wins!!

Finally, we may have won the doubles set to remain unbeaten this season but it was mighty close and Harriers were perhaps unlucky to lose this one. The match score therefore finished 9-1.

As things stand, Taverners are 2 points behind Torre Vikings after 10 matches played so there could be an exciting finish to the Division 3 season although Vikings must remain favourites. Our last match is v the Vikings at the VH in March. Book your tickets now!!

Taverners resume league action on the 22th February.
