Match Report

Back to back 8-2 defeats for Taverners in the last week against the top 2 teams in Division 2 keeps us anchored at the bottom of the table with our survival hopes hanging by a thread!

Last night at the Village Hall, Torre Titans provided a comprehensive team performance to match our result against Torbay Academy 2 and they thoroughly deserved their win.

Taverners had their moments but at present we are relying too much on Martin to pull us through highlighted by his fine 4 points in the last 2 matches. Colin is struggling a bit but can still provide an excellent performance as he did when narrowly losing to Ed in 5 last night. Despite playing better recently, I cannot "buy" a win with inconsistent sets and a tendency to lose a clutch of points from promising positions!

As for Torre Titans, Rhys is the surprise package in Division 2 this season. Currently 6th in the divisional averages, Rhys has returned to play after a few years absence and what a return! His all round play is impressive, his languid style, fine forehand and excellent movement all makes Rhys a most promising newcomer who can only improve. He also adopts a sporting and happy approach to the sport which is good to see.

Ed was his usual combative self - not the best/most enjoyable person to play against but pleasant enough to talk to off the table - and finally Chris who impressed me again with his determination and will to win mentality. I was hoping to beat Chris this time but he won well in four games.

An earlier finish than usual but despite the result a hard fought and competitive evening of table tennis.

Next for Taverners - away to Raptors which should be another enjoyable encounter at Teign School
