Match Report

Another competitive, interesting and enjoyable evening of table tennis at the Village Hall with a fair bit of chat thrown in!

Although Taverners had the overall "bragging rights" last season with 2 wins out of 3, Marldon (currently second) won last night 6-4 and deserved the win. For Taverners, placed towards the bottom of Division 2, four points gained can be seen as a good return and we could perhaps have scraped another draw (2 so far) as Colin and Martin only lost to Helen, supported well by George, 12-10 in the 5th game!

The win was deserved because both Ed and in particular Helen put in dominant performances. With Ed recording only his fourth defeat this season when he lost to Colin, Helen showed impressive form with her consistent attack going well supported by her movement (edit: really) and all round game. She was rarely troubled last night and won all her matches convincingly.

The sets with Nigel were all pretty tight and definitely competitive! Nigel may have remained pointless on the night but he fought hard throughout with his fierce backhand being a standout shot on many occasions!

As for Taverners, I think I detect signs of recovery after a difficult early season. Colin for the second match running picked up 2 points including a fine win against Ed while Martin and myself are picking up points in support.

Finally it was good to talk to Marilyn P. I was also very happy to hear that daughter Janette - always a happy face on the table tennis table whether playing in Exeter or South Devon- was married last weekend. Very best wishes Janette.......
