Match Report
As always, it was a lovely evening of chat and TT with the Taverners trio and in the end, it was Brixham Trawlers coming out on top with their biggest win of the season so far.
With half of the games going the distance, things could have been very different, but Nick Williamson managed to get his money's worth and prevail in all three of his 5-set games taking a maximum. Ian Saxby did the same against Colin Harrop in a stunning opener, but fell short against Martin Dilkes whose cunning combination style outfoxed Saxby's conventional attacking game.
No slack was needed from Alan Maynard who went in all guns blazing to shock an unsuspecting Geoff Read, so reliant on capitalising on Maynard's regular passive style. This continued from Maynard throughout and came away winning all three without dropping a set.
Williamson and Saxby, unbeaten in the four opening matches as doubles partners took on Harrop and Dilkes for the final five-setter, but finally had their 100% record smashed going down 11-4 in the fifth.
The net and the occasional edge played their parts this evening, Trawlers just edging that battle (sorry, no pun intended), but there with quality low shot play like tonight's, it wasn't too much of a surprise.
Thanks to Geoff, Colin and Martin for a great night, looking forward to the return next Feb!
