SOUTH DEVON & TORBAY TABLE TENNIS LEAGUE – SPONSORED BY ALBANY FLORISTS

2023-24 SEASON

Just the one first division match this week between two Newton Abbot teams as NA Buzzards took on NA Eagles. The Buzzards won this encounter 7-3 but it was by no means easy. Herbie Sage picked up a fine maximum for the Buzzards, having to fight back from 9-5 down in the fifth against Mark Burridge who won his other two singles. Mark was joined by the promising new Eagles’ recruit, Bryan Birkbeck, to take the final doubles.

NA Buzzards – Herbie Sage, Sonja Ryland, Kevin Nicholls

In the second division NA Raptors continued their excellent start to the season with a 7-3 victory over club mates NA Kestrels thanks to a fine maximum from Steve Tyler, well backed up by Paul Hine and Ed Moffatt.

Colin Butterworth was again unbeaten for Grove Guerrillas who made it two wins out of two with an impressive, but narrow, 6-4 win over a strong Dawlish Aces team. Brixham Trawlers, also going well, secured a comfortable 8-2 victory over Halwell B who have started the season poorly. Alan Maynard and Allen Pack with maximums for the Trawlers.

Relegated Taverners kicked off their third division campaign with an 8-2 victory over Brixham Gulls. The Taverners’ Martin Dilkes shouldn’t lose many matches in this division and he collected his first maximum helping the Taverners to victory alongside Geoff Read and Colin Harrop who both won two singles.  A Bill Keywood maximum for Torre Vikings helped them to a 7-3 victory over Torbay Academy 3. An unbeaten Jackie Whitehorn helped NA Hawks to a 7-3 victory at Bishopsteignton over the Dawlish Renegades.

Torbay Academy 3 – Kevin Palin, Andy Harris, Peter Moretta

Marc Grim was unbeaten as his Dawlish Doubtfuls lost out 7-3 to Torbay Academy 5 in the fourth division.

The busy Dawlish Doubtfuls picked themselves up from that defeat with a fine 9-1 win at Newton Abbot Vultures. Another Marc Grim maximum plus one from Peter Chadwick helped them on their way.  Torre Gladiators fine start to the season continued with an 8-2 win over Brixham Seals, Robert Excell was again unbeaten for the Gladiators.
