PRESS REPORT – Sunday 19^th March 2023

Torbay Academy 2 clinched the second division title with a 7-3 victory over NA Owls. Nicholas Shipley was undefeated for the Academy who have an insurmountable 24 point lead over nearest challengers Brixham Gulls. Mike Dummett and Jim McIvor maximums helped NA Falcons to an 8-2 victory over relegated Taverners. Also winning 8-2 were clubmates NA Raptors whose Paul Hine and Steve Tyler were in excellent form as they got the better of Brixham Trawlers.

Div 2 Champions – Torbay Academy 2 Nicholas Shipley, Ben Hoare, Stuart Shipley

In the first division the lead changes again following NA Batmen’s whitewash victory over Halwell A. Dennis Gibbs, Naomi Jackson & Rory Harries’s 10-0 win puts them two points ahead of NA Buzzards while the Champions elect, Torbay Academy 1, sit in third, a further two points behind, with two games in hand. Tim Burridge was unbeaten as his NA Eagles side defeated NA Condors 7-3.

Torbay Academy 3 reacted to their loss last week, and to being caught at the top of the third division, with a thumping 10-0 victory over bottom of the table Torre Tornadoes. Ed Damanskas, Neville Cregan and Will Whittington were on target for the Academy. The Grove won 6-4  but dropped valuable points at Newton Abbot to the Hawks, Derek Bowerman with an excellent maximum for The Grove. NA Kestrels kept up their interest at the top with an 8-2 victory over clubmates NA Harriers, Rob Williams and Andy Millman with maximums for the Kestrels. Peter Moretta picked up his third man of the match performance in a row in Torbay Academy 4’s 5-5 draw with Torre Vikings.

In the fourth division it would require a major slip up from Dawlish Renegades to let in either NA Merlins or Torbay Academy 6. The Renegades have won all 12 of their fixtures to date but only have a 5 point lead at the top with a couple of games to play. A Jerry Hollings maximum helped Torbay Academy 6 to a 6-4 victory over NA Ospreys. NA Merlins kept up the pressure at the top with a 9-1 win over Dawlish Doubtfuls, Jasem Abu Ali and Nick Kitchen with maximums for the Merlins.  The young NA Vultures trio battled well but eventually went down 6-4 to the more experienced NA Kites.

It was not a good week for Brixham Sharks who lost out in the latter stages of both cup competitions.  In the doubles quarter-final they lost out to Torbay Academy 4, 342-293. However, It was a much closer contest against NA Harriers in the singles semi-final with the scores level going into the last set, eventually losing by just nine points, 332-323.  In an all Newton Abbot doubles quarter final NA Kestrels defeated NA Ospreys 369-344.
