It was cup week as the team singles handicap competition got underway. In the cup competitions every point counts, it’s not based on individual sets won but on accumulated points.
The top Torbay Academy teams always excel in this competition and they have again started well. The Shipley twins, Stuart & Nicholas, combining with Elsa Perry representing the Academy’s top side defeated Halwell B after just 7 sets 278–191. The Academy’s 4th team of Peter Moretta, Kevin Palin and Andy Harris saw off the challenge from the Taverners winning 372–239.
In an all Newton Abbot clash the NA Kestrels, Tim Shears, Rob Williams and Andy Millman defeated club mates NA Falcons 355-325. The handicap proved to be too much for NA Batmen as they lost out to NA Merlins, David Olver, Chris Bishop and Nick Kitchen in another all Newton Abbot encounter. Keith Haslam, Ivor Copley and Dale Fabian representing NA Harriers defeated Torbay Academy (7) 387-260.

NA Owls, Curtis Sage, Matt & Wojtek Cyron, started poorly against Torre Vikings but fought back well to win by 34 points. A great match between Torbay Academy 3 and NA Condors ended with the Condors team of Ed Moffatt, Huw Darch and Paul Hine defeating the Academy third string 355-327.

Halwell ‘A’ lost out by just 22 points in the closest match of the round as the NA Hawks, Doug Morgan, Andy Guy and David Doxsey started and finished strongly. Halwell fought back well and got to within 4 points with three sets to play but the Hawks rallied to take the victory.

Both Torre Titans and Brixham Sharks had byes through the first round and met at Torre in a second round match. The Brixham team of Chris Harper, Clive Banham and Joe Edwards winning 363-325 against the Titans
