PRESS REPORT – Sunday 16th Jan

With the top of the table first division clash between NA Buzzards, top, and second placed NA Batmen postponed as the venue was unavailable there was an opportunity for NA Eagles and Torbay Academy 1 to close the gap on the leaders. Both teams took up the challenge with comfortable 8-1 wins. Maximums from Jeremy Broad and Tim Burridge saw NA Eagles defeat Halwell B while Kacper Piwowar and Alessandro Mitranescu did likewise for the Academy as they beat NA Condors.  Mick Mercer was unbeaten as Halwell A defeated Brixham Sharks 5-4.

The competitiveness of the second division was summed up by the bottom team defeating the leaders 7-2. NA Raptors at the foot of the table defeated joint leaders NA Falcons 7-2, Paul Hine with a fine maximum for the Raptors.  Incredibly with 9 points up for grabs every week there are just 14 points separating the top team from the bottom team. Torre Titans took their chance to go top with a narrow 5-4 victory over Brixham Trawlers, Chris Harper with another excellent maximum for the Titans.  NA Owls lost their first match of the season as they went down 5-4 to Brixham Gulls despite Giles Tushingham remaining unbeaten for the season.  Taverners’ Martin Dilkes was in superb form as he battled away for a maximum against Torbay Academy 2, however they were the only points for the Taverners as they lost out 6-3.

There were comfortable wins for the leading three teams in the third division as they have opened up a big gap at the top of the table.  Leaders, Torre Panthers, defeated Dawlish 8-1 thanks to maximums from Kai Holtham and Alan Tyrrell.  Second placed NA Hawks were also 8-1 winners as they saw off the challenge from Torbay Academy 4, Pete Sercombe and Doug Morgan were unbeaten for the Hawks. NA Kestrels, Andy Millman, Quillan Wilson and Rob Williams, kept up their interest in the title with a 9-0 victory over Torbay Academy 3.  The Grove picked up their first win of the season and lifted themselves off the foot of the table with a 5-4 victory at Newton Abbot over the Ospreys despite an excellent Henry Greet maximum for the home side.  It’s tight at the bottom with just three points separating the bottom four teams.

It looks like a two horse race in the fourth division with the top two both picking up whitewash victories, Torbay Academy 5 retaining their one point lead at the top. Academy youngsters Will Whittington, Naty Mitranescu and Kai Fowler defeated NA Vultures 9-0 while the experienced Torre Thunder team of Charun Tatom, Robert Excell and Eve James saw off the challenge from Brixham Seals.  Ionel Ichim and Kevin Palin were undefeated as Torbay Academy 6 defeated NA Merlins 7-2.
