PRESS REPORT – Sunday 3^rd Mar

With just 4 games to go for most teams in the top division, Torbay Academy 1 have a 14 point lead at the top. The Academy’s latest victory was not as formidable as normal as the Condors’ Rory Harries came away with an impressive maximum, however, those were the only points for the Condors as the Academy ran out 7-3 winners.  A fine whitewash victory for NA Batmen over Brixham Gulls has reduced the gap at the top of the table, Naomi Jackson, Dennis & Shaun Gibbs winning all the sets 3 straight except one.  Herbie Sage was in excellent form as NA Buzzards squeezed past Brixham Sharks 6-4

Torbay Academy 2 are pulling away from NA Eagles at the top of the second division. The Academy’s latest victory a 9-1 win over Denbury Tykes saw Warren Ngai, Simon Furgol & Esme Suarez all with maximums, but the Tykes fought back to take the final doubles. Second placed NA Eagles, with a Jim McIvor maximum, defeated Brixham Trawlers 8-2.  The busy Trawlers bounced back with a fine 6-4 victory over NA Falcons, Ian Saxby unbeaten for the Brixham side.  The Falcons from Newton Abbot, also playing twice this week, did get a win as they got the better of the Taverners winning 6-4, thanks mainly to a Chris Jacob maximum.  Brixham Pirates narrowly defeated Marldon 6-4.

The Third Division title is far from settled as just 8 points separate the top three.  A fine Kevin Ayling maximum for Marldon Tykes took them briefly to the top of the table as they defeated their nearest rivals Torbay Academy 3 6-4. However, the Torbay Academy 3 team of Ben Hoare, Matt Cooper and Matt Frettsome were unstoppable as they whitewashed NA Kestrels to take the lead back later in the week. A Doug Morgan maximum for NA Hawks kept them in contention as they defeated Torbay Academy 4  8-2.  Brixham Dolphins, now 33 points adrift at the bottom of the table, suffered another heavy defeat as Torbay Academy 5 dominated throughout. Jamie McGuire, Neville Cregan and Liam Wall rarely troubled by the struggling Dolphins.  Bruce Freeman recorded another fine maximum for Dawlish Diamonds as they shared the points with NA Kestrels.

A Chris Harper maximum for Torre Titans was not enough to defeat fourth division leaders, Hasbeens, as the top two faced each other this week and played out a 5-5 draw.  Dawlish Drifters’ Ivor Copley was unbeaten as they too could not be separated, finishing 5-5 against Torbay Academy 6. Yet another draw saw NA Owls share the points with Torre Panthers.  Maximums from Steve and Carl Tucker helped Torre Tigers to a 6-4 win over NA Kites. Torbay Academy 6 had the biggest win of the week in the fourth division as they defeated NA Owls 8-2, Alessandro Mitranescu with a maximum for the Academy.

With leaders Torbay Academy 7 having the week off runners up, NA Ospreys, closed the gap at the top to just 4 points with an excellent 8-2 win over third placed Brixham Seals. Rob Ferguson and Ollie Pead were unbeaten for the Ospreys.  NA Vultures had a good 7-3 win at Brixham over the Swifts thanks to maximums from Mike Halse and Andy Guy. In a good week for the Newton Abbot teams in the fifth division NA Merlins defeated Dawlish Delights 6-4 despite a fine maximum from Dawlish’s Laurie Girling
