PRESS REPORT – Sunday 28^th Oct

A belated start to the season for the NA Condors and a fine fightback to claim a draw against Brixham Sharks in the First Division.  Not only did young Lauren Loosemore in her first game in the South Devon League come back from 10-4 down in the fifth against Bob Parkins, but the Condors also fought back from 2-5 down to draw the match. NA Batmen just pipped NA Buzzards 6-4 in another top-class encounter, the experienced Gibbs’ father and son combination, Dennis and Shaun, prevailing in the final doubles to win the match.  There was a fine 8-2 victory for Halwell over Brixham Gulls, Dave Wadling with a maximum for Halwell.

The Taverners, also starting the season late, kicked off their 2^nd Division campaign with a good 7-3 win over Brixham Trawlers, with Colin Harrop going well for the Taverners.  Brixham Pirates, with a Martin Sharp maximum, saw off 2^nd Division newcomers Denbury Tykes, 8-2

There were two excellent matches between teams from the same club in the 3^rd Division.  Torbay Academy 3 were held to a 5-5 draw by their 5^th team, whilst NA Hawks got the better of their club mates the Kestrels 7-3, thanks to another maximum from skipper Doug Morgan.  Marldon Tykes, going well again this season, defeated Dawlish Diamonds 8-2, with Kevin Ayling unbeaten for the Tykes.  Brixham Dolphins shared the points with Torbay Academy 4.

Early leaders in the 4^th Division, Torre Titans, eased past their colleagues the Tigers, 9-1, as Chris Harper & Bill Keywood took maximums for the Titans, Steve Tucker preventing the whitewash with the Tigers point. Hasbeens Alan Tyrrell, Mike Wickens and Mike Coxhead, went one better with a 10-0 victory over Dawlish Drifters.  A Rowan Bayliss maximum helped NA Owls to a narrow 6-4 victory over clubmates the Kites. Torre Panthers recorded a 9-1 win over Torbay Academy 6, with Andrew Connor and Rob Burridge unbeaten for the Panthers.

In the 5^th Division, Dawlish Dodgers picked up their first win of the season, with Prabhu Kashap going well as they defeated Brixham Swifts 7-3.  An excellent maximum from NA Merlins’ Eve James was not enough as the Merlins lost out 7-3 to a fine all-round performance from Brixham Seals 7-3. Torbay Academy 7 continued their fine run with a 9-1 victory over Dawlish Delights, as Kacper Piwowar and Nick Turner took maximums for the Academy.
