ALBANY FLORISTS-SPONSORED SOUTH DEVON & TORBAY TABLE TENNIS LEAGUE

Leaders of the First Division, Torbay Academy 1, with a 6-4 victory over 2nd placed NA Buzzards widened the gap at the top to 13 points.  A superb Patrik Cincala maximum followed by a doubles win with Paul Myatt was the difference; Cincala did however have to work hard with all 4 sets going to the deciding 5th game in a great evening of top class table tennis.  NA Batmen have caught club mates the Buzzards, following a 9-1 win over Halwell, with Rod Sugden’s victory over Dennis Gibbs preventing the whitewash, and Naomi Jackson and Shaun Gibbs unbeaten for the Batmen.  Just behind the two Newton Abbot teams in fourth, Brixham Sharks also recorded a 9-1 victory over club mates Pirates. Adam Shipway and Clive Banham gained maximums, whilst Martin Sharp took the point for the Pirates. Torbay Academy 2 edged a close match with Brixham Gulls 6-4.

Brixham Seals’ first defeat of the season, at the hands of NA Falcons 6-4, gave the opportunity for Torbay Academy 3 to go back to the top of the table, which they did following a 9-1 win over stablemates Academy 4. There were maximums for Falcons’ Giles Tushingham and Academy 3’s Bubai Roy and Esmeralda Suarez. NA Eagles put a stop to Marldon’s fine run of form with an excellent 9-1 victory; Andy Tyrrell and Jim McIvor were unbeaten for the Newton Abbot side. A Colin Harrop-inspired Taverners hit a bit of form with a 7-3 victory over NA Hawks.
