ALBANY FLORISTS-SPONSORED SOUTH DEVON & TORBAY TABLE TENNIS LEAGUE

The First Division season kicked off with a couple of really exciting close encounters, decided on the final doubles and an awesome whitewash from the existing champions.  An all-Newton Abbot affair between the Batmen and Buzzards saw the Batmen come back from 3-5 down to share the points, Jon Cheung with an excellent maximum for the Buzzards. Promoted Torbay Academy 2 showed they mean business in the top flight, taking the experienced Brixham Sharks to the final decider, before going down 6-4. Adam Shipway took an impressive maximum for the Sharks, Herbie Sage with 2 great singles wins for the Academy.  Kris Piwowar, Patrik Cincala and Paul Myatt, the Academy 1st team, are reigning champions and were in awesome form as they whitewashed the Brixham Pirates, who battled in vain as they try to establish themselves in the First Division. The busy Newton Abbot Batmen recovered from their tough encounter with the Buzzards earlier in the week to brush aside Brixham Gulls 9-1: Naomi Jackson and Dennis Gibbs unbeaten, Chris Dunn preventing the whitewash with a fine victory over Shaun Gibbs.

Torbay Academy 1 – Kris Piwowar, Paul Myatt, Patrik Cincala

NA Batmen – Shaun Gibbs, Naomi Jackson, Dennis Gibbs

Brixham Sharks’ Adam Shipway on his way to a fine maximum

A Giles Tushingham maximum got NA Falcons off to a winning start with a 6-4 win over the Battlers, and a Curtis Sage maximium, in his first match for Newton Abbot TTC, helped the NA Eagles defeat Brixham Trawlers 7-3.  Torbay Academy 3 looked in fine form as they beat Taverners 9-1, with Jakub Piwowar and Szymon Furgol unbeaten for the Academy and Martin Dilkes, preventing the whitewash, winning the point for Taverners.  Brixham Seals’ Bob Parkins and Stuart Shipley were too strong for newly promoted NA Hawks as they secured maximums in the Seals 7-3 victory.
