ALBANY FLORIST SPONSORED SOUTH DEVON & TORBAY TABLE TENNIS LEAGUE

There were comfortable wins for the top 3 sides in the First Division:  leaders NA Batmen whitewashed Halwell, who are still looking for their first set win.  NA Buzzards lost their first encounter of the season to a very impressive Torbay Academy 1.  Kris Piwowar and  Patrik Cincala both took maximums for the Academy.  Piwowar was pushed close by Kevin Nicholls who at 5-5 in the fifth game missed out on an opportunity to inflict a very rare defeat on Piwowar.  Brixham Sharks, with Clive Banham in top form, moved up to third with an 8-2 victory over Torbay Academy 2.

A fine 9-1 win by NA Eagles over Marldon takes them to the top of the Second Division table.  Ed Crawford and Jim McIvor were unbeaten for the Eagles.  In a cracking match, second-placed Torbay Academy 3 raced off to a 4-0 lead over Brixham Imports, but the Imports won the next 4 sets all in the fifth game, 11-9, 12-10, 11-9 & 12-10 to draw level and it finished level at 5-5. Battlers, with Ed Thompson and Peter Nicholson on top form, completed a 9-1 win over Taverners, who had been going well.  Brixham Pirates eased past Marldon Tykes 8-2 thanks to maximums from Ben Deakin and Martin Sharp.

Third Division leaders NA Hawks suffered a setback to their title challenge as they went down 6-4 to Brixham Dolphins, with Brian Pengelly undefeated for the Dolphins.  Second-place Denbury Tykes, came away  from Brixham with an 8-2 win over the Diamonds,  with Pat and Huw Darch both getting maximums for the Tykes. Torbay Academy 4, in third place, had a comprehensive 9-1 victory over Dawlish Drifters. Ben Hoare, Matthew Cooper & Jakub Piwowar won all their singles for the Academy, with the Drifters’ solitary point coming from the final doubles.  NA Falcons picked up their first win of the season 7-3 over the Hasbeens. The Falcons’ Peter Tarjan gained a maximum, and was supported well by Derek Stratton, and, making his first start, Robert Williams.

70 extra years of experience was not enough for Dawlish Drifters’ Don Beesley (born in 1937) as he was well beaten by the youthful enthusiasm of Torbay Academy’s Jakub Piwowar (born 2007)

The Fourth Division looks like it is going to be very open this season.  Last week’s leaders Torre Tigers were beaten 4-6 at home by NA Ospreys, who had Dale Fabian & Luke Robins securing maximums. The new leaders, Torbay Academy 5, narrowly defeated NA Owls 6-4, and Travis Graham was undefeated for the Newton Abbot side.  NA Kites continued their winning start to the season, with a 7-3 win over Torbay Academy 6. Archer Snow played his first match of the season with a maximum for the Kites. Torres R Us, with Andrew Davies in fine form, picked up their first win of the campaign at Brixham over the Swifts 7-3.
