SOUTH DEVON & TORBAY TABLE TENNIS LEAGUE

Brixham Imports extend their lead at the top of the Second Division following an excellent team performance in their 7-3 victory over 2^nd placed clubmates the Pirates.  Marldon, with Dave Atkin in fine form, defeated Dawlish Aces 8-2, and an Ed Crawford maximum for N A Buzzards in their 7-3 win over Torbay Academy 3 keeps their challenges for the top of the table on course.  Taverners climbed the table with an impressive 9-1 win over basement side Denbury Tykes, Colin Harrop & Geoff Read with maximums, and Martin Dilkes preventing the whitewash with the point for the Tykes.

NA Batmen reclaimed the runners-up slot in the First Division, following a narrow 6-4 win at Torbay Academy 2, with Kris Piwowar still unbeaten in the singles, although the father and son Gibbs combination did get the better of Piwowar & Wills in the doubles to clinch victory.

Piwowar junior, Jakub, remains unbeaten in the 4^th Division as do the Sage brothers, Herbie & Curtis as they stretched the Torbay Academy 6 lead at the top to a massive 29 points following a 10-0 whitewash over Pure Torre. The contest in this division will be for the runner-up place. Only a point separates Newton Abbot Kestrels, Kites and Torre Tigers, all 3 teams with good wins this week. NA Kestrels took a 9-1 win over Brixham Swifts and NA Kites with a similar win over clubmates the Owls. Lewis Short gained his first maximum in the league for the Kites. Torre Tigers, with Jean Neafcy in top form, defeated Torbay Academy 5 7-3.

Marldon Tykes are 14 points clear at the top of the Third Division and looking likely champions, although 2^nd placed Brixham Diamonds have a game in hand. The Brixham side closed the gap with a convincing 9-1 win over Hasbeens while Tykes squeezed home against Brixham Dolphins 6-4.  A Don McConnell maximum helped basement club Dawlish Drifters to their first win of the season, defeating stablemates Dawlish Diamonds 6-4. Mike Coxhead, with another maximum, helped his Hawks’ side to a share of the points against Brixham Dolphins. Torre Bats, with both Peter Heathcote and Tony Nguyen unbeaten, defeated Torbay Academy 3, 7-3.
