SOUTH DEVON & TORBAY TABLE TENNIS LEAGUE

The Super Singles League took precedence over the team competitions this week as the League programme made way for the third Round of the League’s individual competition.

Patrik Cincala still leads the 1st Division, however he was beaten for the first time in this competition by Kevin Nicholls. Adam Shipway’s win over Kevin Nicholls meant 3 wins each for Cincala, Nicholls & Shipway at the top.  On points countback, Cincala took top spot and Nicholls was runner-up.  However, following his successes in the first two rounds, Cincala has a comfortable lead at the top.  Chris Dunn & Mick Mercer are relegated to the 2nd Division.

The 2nd Division was won by an inspired Jim McIvor who remained unbeaten, and Kelvin Cheung as runner up will join McIvor in the 1st Division for Round 4.

Mark Smith took the 3rd Division by storm, winning all his matches quite comfortably. Daniel Webster-Hall finished runner-up and will be promoted with Smith.

Division 4 was really tight with all but one match going to 5 sets. Nick Williamson & Stuart Shipley finished with 3 wins each, Williamson finishing top due to his victory over Shipley.

Unfortunately, although some excellent table tennis was played in Division 5, 6 & 7, with reserves stepping in to fill gaps left by many registered players unable to play, there were very few competitive matches played.

Whilst it was a week off for most teams in the League, Taverners were busy with an excellent 9-1 win over Marldon in the 2nd Division, followed by a 5-2 win over NA Hawks in the Challenge Cup.  Taverners’ Geoff Read was unbeaten in both matches.

Torbay Academy 6 extended their lead at the top of the Fourth Division with a convincing 9-1 win over NA Kites; the Sage brothers, Curtis & Herbie gaining maximums. Kites’ Lewis Short’s victory over Lucas Bradshaw prevented the whitewash. Torre Tigers came away from Brixham with a narrow 6-4 victory over the Panthers.

In the Dyment Doubles NA Buzzards have earned a quarter-final tie against reigning champions Torbay Academy 1 following their 5-2 win at Dawlish against the Diamonds.
