SOUTH DEVON & TORBAY TABLE TENNIS LEAGUE
Only a handful of games in the League this week as the League programme had a scheduled week off to accommodate a round of the Singles Super League.
Denbury Imports stretched their lead at the top of the First Division thanks to a fine team effort in defeating Torbay Academy II 7-3, however they could not defeat the Academy’s Kris Piwowar. Halwell eased their relegation worries with their first win of the season comfortably beating the Battlers 8-2; Dave Wadling with a maximum for Halwell.
Brixham Pirates continue to move up the table, they are now 3rd following their 7-3 victory over second- placed NA Eagles. Jim McIvor, with a maximum, got all the points for the Eagles.
In the Third Division, Torre’s Tony Nguyen recorded another maximum as Torre Bats saw off the challenge from NA Hawks 6-4.
The bottom 2 sides in the Fourth Division met at Torbay Academy, with the Academy 5 side defeating bottom side Pure Torre 9-1 to move a couple of places up the table. Victor Bonfante and Craig Collins gained maximums for the Academy, while Torres’ Anne Morris prevented the whitewash with her singles win over Hannah Wooster.
Holders of the Challenge Cup for the last 3 years, Torbay Academy 1, have been eliminated in the first round this season by their clubmates Academy 2. In a very close contest the Academy’s 2nd team came from 3-1 down to win 5-4 with maximum hero Sam Perkins beating Grzeg Wojtowicz in the final singles.
