Match Report

Congratulations to Sheerness East 2, who at the 14th attempt, won their first match of the season. They were given a 3 point start, however, by opponents Boxley 1, who unfortunately could only send two players to the Island for this match. Five of the Seven games went to a deciding leg and Gary Hentschel was determined to make the long trip worthwhile as he was involved in four of them. Niyi Oyelade emerged unbeaten(just) as he beat both Hentschel and Barry Roles 11-9 in the deciding legs. Hentschel came back from 2 legs down to defeat Simon Hatt (who is finding his touch after a long absence from the sport) and also took out Garry Kimber over the maximum distance in the battle of the "gazzas". Roles also beat Hatt and Kimber so it was all on the Doubles. This was a very close encounter which the home side nicked 16-14 in the 5th saving at least one match point to secure that welcome first win of a difficult season.
