Fake Emails from names you recognise

For information – apologies if you’re already familiar with this information.

Lots of people have been contacting us about strange emails purporting to be from members of the Medway Table Tennis League and other people they recognise, they're not

Please always check the actual email address, not just the display name.

You can do this easily by hovering your mouse pointer over the sender display name or clicking on the sender and this will show you the email address behind the display name.

It's a now common scam, they change the display name on an email address (anyone can do this with any email address easily) to a name they hope people will recognise and further hope that recipients won't bother to check the actual email address.

They then ask you to contact them urgently, to do something for them as they are busy/unable to, or perhaps look at some photos, DON’T

ALWAYS check the actual email address is the one the person concerned uses.

Even if the email address contains their name it is probably still fake if it isn’t exactly the email address they use.

If in doubt then call the person, DON'T reply to the email. ope that helps.
