Match Report - Week 9 - December 8th 2021

Match Number Nine - Week 7

Premier Division 

Divergents went down fighting against team at the top Horsham Spinners and go down to third. Spinners continue their unbeaten run with this 8-1 win over Divergents. For Spinners another treble for both Rory Scott and Graham Beaney with two for Gary Wilson. Although Divergents saw most games going to four and five sets the only winner was Emma Torkington, who defeated Gary Wilson in straight sets and went the full distance with Rory Scott and Graham Beaney. 

Back into second place go Hang Em High (who also have a game in hand), with a convincing 9-0 win over struggling Crawley Community. Hang Em High trio Michael Bridger, Graham Carter and Ben Worley all with a trio of wins. For Crawley Community Freddy Goodall went down in all his games to four and five sets.

With TT Legend's exit from the league, an unofficial match between Dynamos and a 3 person team of Ed Harvey, Sasha O’Halloran and Steve Ive took its place in the calendar. A great treble from Sasha O’Halloran who dominated her games against Richard and Matthew Caddy and Richard Cosens and also a treble from their no.1 Edward Harvey. For Dynamos it was 1 a piece for Richard and Matthew Caddy and Richard Cosens over Steve all in close 4 and 5 setters.


Conference Division

In a really close match Pingwins defeated top of the table King Pongs 5-4. This win takes Pingwins only four points behind the leaders. Star for Pingwins was junior Dan Polhill in winning all three singles. His win included a five-set win against the unbeaten Paul Brinkhurst. He from two sets down to win the last three sets.  Team mate David Polhill with two wins sealed victory for Pingwins. For division leaders King Pongs, it was two for Paul Brinkhurst one for Nikita Kalyazin and one win plus two close losses for junior Holly Cole. 

A good win for Spinderella’s puts them in third place one point behind Pingwins. For Spinderella’s it was three for Viv Cole and also Kate Bridger with her first treble of the season. New Avengers Robert Goff, Luke Goff and Rowan Goff won one apiece.   

Magiks team were happy to defeat X Men 5-4 as X Men are four places above them in this division. For Magiks it was a team effort with two games each for Mel Sims and Kevin Deacon and Phil Harvey stepping in with the important one. X Men had Robert Hoare winning two with Colin Cooper and Peter Caddy with one apiece.

Blade Runners Oscar Wiseman was the star of the night for Blades by winning all three games, (Oscar one of the leagues youngest junior players will be looking for premiership play next season). His team member Jennifer Watkins played very well to defeat both Andy Steel and Phil Harvey. Samantha Stoner for Thunderbolts won two with Jim Griffin and Andy Steel winning one each
