First Week of the Season

Highlights from Week 1:

Division 1

Two matches played both ending 5-5 in sets with Staveley B edging the match against Rainton by winning the extra game 20-19.

Phil Ralli and Glenn Apperley the only unbeaten players in the first week.

Good to see Staveley B (previously St John Fisher) make a fine start in Division 1 with Theo Kelly winning 2 out of his 3 matches.

Racquets B had a commendable draw against SPA A given they only had two players available on the night. 

 

Division 2 

Two matches played and an early lead for Burnbridge A winning 9-1 and taking 36 points against Ripon A. Dale Ward and Derek Wood winning all their three matches with Bill Stockill picking up the solitary win for Ripon.

SPA B and Boston SPA A played out a draw 23 points each with John Baker proving his worth yet again winning all of his matches.

Division 3

Three games played this week - Rainton B proving too strong for Juniors A and taking the full 40 points on offer. Early days for the Junior A team and they will look to bounce back at Racquets E next week.

Spa C come out on top against Burnbridge C helped by Xiaojun Lai winning all of his three matches.

Juniors B had a good win against Wetherby B, David Sherwood unbeaten in this match.

Division 4

All three scheduled matches were completed in week 1 and the early leaders are Racquets G who overcame their fellow club team Racquets F picking up 33 points. Kate Reid winning all her matches to take 100% into week 2. The last match of the night saw Kate take a two sets to nil lead over Diane Howard only to be pegges back to two sets all before finally coming through 11-6 in the fifth.

Burnbridge D and Spa D played out a very close match won eventually by SPA D with Russell Gregory winning the key final match 3-1 to give SPA D the win and despite the performance of Burnbridge D's Robin Addis who won all his matches dropping only one set all night.

Juniors C played Wetherby C and victory here for Wetherby and three wins out of three for Andrew Marshall. Charles Usher our oldest registered player picked up 5 points for Wetherby despite losing all three matches and was involved in a close match with Douglas Fabbroni losing 11-8 in the 5th.
