With a hat trick from Steven Baines, Beaumont A defeated Nunthorpe A by 6 sets to 4 in the 1st Division of the Cleveland & District Summer Table Tennis League, losing only to Nunthorpe’s best player, David Williams. Williams won 2 for Nunthorpe, beating both Jane Lynas and Peter Abell. David Hildreth and Bob Evans won 1 each for Nunthorpe against Lynas, the match between Bob Evans and Jane Lynas being 11-8 in the decider.
In another close match, Hartlepool A visited Darlington Dolphins and won by 6 sets to 4 with a hat trick from Jimmy Scope. Jack Jacomb won 2 and Phil Webster 1. Darlington’s Luke Robinson produced the best results for his team with 2 wins whilst Jamie Peacock won 1. Peacock came close to winning a second match when he took immy Scope to 5 sets before losing at 11-7.
Also in the 1st Division Ormesby C had a convincing win against the club’s D team by 9 sets to 1 with Chrissie Edwards and Ryan Nassau both scoring hat tricks. Alex Wilson won 2 before losing to John McCullow.
Ormesby B did well to beat Nunthorpe A by 10-0 with hat tricks from Michael Young, Carl White and Karl Shaw. The match was closer than the scoreline suggests as Young was taken to 11-9 in the decider by David Pashley. Pashley also took Karl Shaw to 5 games before the Ormesby player won at 11-4.
