The Tamworth table tennis season is coming to an end and apart from a couple of postponed matches most of the results are in.
Division three has produced a clear leader this year, with Spital Mondays winning their final match 10 - 0 and taking the Division 3 league title by a clear 26 points. Sven Petterson, Ian Sketchley and John Brookes finished their 16 games in a tremendous fashion, beating Bennett's Cruisers. Lichfield Rockets are runners up in division three with a respectable 116 points. Other years this would easily be a winning score.
Division two is much closer at the top. Tamworth Wheeler Pongers are still holding the number one spot, as they have done for the previous three months. They have played all their matches and have 119 points, 10 points clear of Spital Daredevils, The Daredevils still have one game to play, so they have to get a clean sweep when they play Lichfield Knaves next week, to even force a draw. The Pongers team, consisting of Steve Smith, Richard Grove, Nick Matthews and Steve Brown have all produced averages of over 50% to create the lead they currently hold. In their final match , they beat Netherseal Ash 9 - 1 to form this interesting scoreline. Mark Randle took the only point for Ash, beating Grove in straight games.
Division one also has a couple of outstanding games. Current leaders Wilnecote Raiders are just three points clear, but with one game still to play, Curdworth Wheelers Pingers look likely to lift the top Tamworth title this year. Pingers won their last match against Netherseal Oak 7 -3, only Andrew Rose, for Oak, beat Dawn Sagoo, Rob Sheldon and John Ludford. Along with further team members Jody Bevington, Gary Nash and Paul Hancox, the Pingers have played fantastic this year, constantly at the top of the table, for most of the season.
