A Peter Florence composition : 

Ashorne gave a Stratford league debut to Adrian Pilgrim, ranked amongst the top 10 English veteran players, when they entertained JLM Kingfishers. He produced a perfect performance adding the doubles, in partnership with Roger Pye, to a dominant singles display. Steve Kay ensured the hosts gained a share of the spoils by narrowly defeating opponents' captain Jim Clarke in their decisive final end. Piotr Penczkowski and Stef Mytton notched braces for Kingfishers, although  Mytton let slip a two game lead against Pye before recovering to secure the set, while Clarke earned their other point. 

Stratford C got off to a good start against Tanworth Taipans when, in the only contest to go the full distance, Barry Fulford overturned an initial disadvantage to take the fifth game against Tim Lawrence 11-9. Robert Bartkowski added Stratford’s second score, whilst debutant Alistair Francis was unlucky not to gain some reward after a fine display. Jason Rainey and Mick Welsh chalked up trebles for Taipans with Lawrence also getting on the card as they won 8-2.

Bartkowski was also in action for Stratford B who travelled to Colebridge Bulldogs and he put aside loss of the opener to defeat John Swinburne in the fifth game. The Bulldogs player was also involved in the other two sets to go to the wire with contrasting fortunes. He lost the first two ends to Michael Klein although turned the tide to win the decider 11-9 but, with partner Dean Hicks, lost out in the doubles to Klein and Harry Azima. It was Azima who secured the visitors’ third success but they had no answer to Hicks and Chris Welsh who were both in excellent form to record trebles for Bulldogs.

After just two fixtures Pasties are the early frontrunners having conceded just a single set, two less than second placed Stratford A. The new Stratford club’s senior team also imposed a maximum against Henley who were only able to field two players. Pete and Debbie Barrow and Richard Grover all produced trebles although the latter was tested to the full by Peter Quince.

Snitterfield opened their campaign with a 9-1 victory at Veterans. Clive Irwin and Don McAdam were both untroubled and Alison Stewart added a brace although she was unable to overcome Brian Marston who thereby gained the hosts’ only consolation.
