WINTER LEAGUE 15-16 WEEK 16 REPORT

Division 1

Hockley A took up in the new year where they left off with a 9-0 win over Lentern D which leaves them in trouble at the bottom of the table. The winning team of  Dave Colwill, Alan Tideswill and Tim Pang were largely untroubled by the Lentern D side with only one game going to 4 sets. This now leaves Hockley in a good position 4 points clear of the second placed team.
Moving into second are Customs A  who demolished the challenge of previous second placed team Hullbridge C by 8-1. Roy Thomas and Dale Gutteridge were both unbeaten with Pete Saunders scoring the consolation for Hullbridge in 4 sets over Brian Rackham.  In fact, 8 of the games went to 4 sets but Customs dominated from the start, racing into a 7-0 lead without Hullbridge able to get into the games, leaving them 7 points from the leading team.
Rawreth E are closing the lead and came back with an 8-1 win this week over Runnymede. Trevor Ward and Colin Clements both had an unbeaten night and only Tony Millward, returning from injury, was able to get the better over anti-looper,  veteran Mike Worship in 5 sets for the Runnymede team, leaving them 3rd from bottom and looking over their shoulders.
Hadleigh Forum B’s up and down season continued with a close 5-4 loss to Canvey A in a game where no-one was unbeaten. Terry Giddens and Ray Wilson scored two for the Island team whilst Tony Jacks also got two for Forum. Tony Westwell with a good 5 set win over Mick Tappenden proved to be the difference in the game.
The final result for this week saw Hadleigh Forum C pick up useful points in an 8-1 win over luckless Hockley B who are at the bottom of the table at the halfway stage. Russell Bright and Graham Farmer came away unbeaten with two added by Mark Everard, his only loss to Keith Abbott in 5 sets. It could have been a lot closer but 3 other 5 set games went in favours of the Forum team.
