WINTER LEAGUE 15-16 WEEK 17 REPORT

Division 1

Hockley A have taken a clear 6 point lead at the top of the table after a somewhat predictable result as top played bottom (Hockley B) with the A Team giving very little opportunity to their B team opponents in securing a 9-0 win. Paul Strutt came closest to breaking the duck for the B team taking Matt Stringer to 5 sets but in the end it was a routine win for the league leaders, Tim Pang and Dave Colwill making up the other spots in the A team.

Meanwhile Customs A were in dominant form, disposing of Invicta A 7-2 and maintaining their second place in the table. Roy Thomas secured all three of his matches and was superbly backed up by Brian Rackham and Dave Morgan winning two each. Only Neil Daines could provide any resistance for the home side winning two of his three matches.

Hullbridge C got back to winning ways with a convincing 7-2 win over two-man Lentern C .  Lin Attridge was undefeated, but taken to 5 sets by both Mike Grout and Malcolm Henstock, both of who ground out wins against Jan Fuller and Bill Smith for their two points.

Meanwhile, Hadleigh Forum B are putting on a late run to keep themselves in contention with a convincing 9-0 win over Runnymede where only one match went to 5 sets. Dave Woolmer, Tony Jacks and Anthon Ranjit-Singh were in rampant form to take the win without reply.

Rawreth E came into the match against Hadleigh Forum C looking to consolidate their early season form but had the tables turned on them with the Forum team putting in a good allround performance and ending up with a 7-2 win. The Forum team raced into a 5-0 win and never looked back thanks to three  from Russell Bright and Mark Everard. For the Rawreth team, the comment was that too much Christmas Pudding had put paid to their chances.

Two man Canvey A had to work hard to get a close 5-4 victory over Lentern E., Ray Wilson was unbeaten with two added by Terry Giddens for the successful Canvey team. Wayne Farmer was the pick of the Lentern team with a good win over Terry in 5 sets but losing out to Ray.

Meanwhile towards the bottom of the table, Lentern D did their hopes no end of good with an 8-1 win over Warehouse B, with the game a lot closer than the score suggests. This was a very hard-fought match with no fewer than 6 matches going to 5 sets and the remaining three going to 4 sets. Peter Pond and Peter Lucraft with 3 each and Sue Body with 2 were the successful trio.
